Welcome to Matchonix, an action match-3 game. The game was made by me, Kevin Hutchins, and uses the creative commons track Riverline by Tri-Tachyon.

I made it as an experiment to see if I could make a match-3 game that I enjoyed playing. Ultimately, I'm not really sure if I succeeded! It's hard to have an objective view on something when you know it inside and out.

How to Play

Matchonix is a game about creating sequences, vertical or horizontal, of at least three tiles.

You move a tile by clicking and dragging a tile to any empty space. If the move results in a sequence of three or more, they will be cleared.

As you play, new tiles will appear on the board. If a tile appears in a way that creates a sequence, it will not clear itself. To clear it, you can click on one of the tiles that makes up that sequence.

While a tile is fading in, the space is still open. You can move an existing tile into that location. Once the tile is fully opaque, however, tiles cannot be moved to that slot until it is cleared.

The longer a sequence is when it is cleared, the more points you will get. Clears get more points the longer you've lasted and the larger your combo is. Successive clears will increase your combo meter, and making moves that do not score points will lower it.

The game lasts until the grid fills up. Good luck!

Played it on my phone while pooping 💩 for the authentic connect 3 experience. It did not dissapoint. 👍🏼

Hi, Kevin. I also dislike Match-3's in general, but I think you succeeded in giving this an interesting twist. At first I assumed it was like other Match-3's where you could only move 1 square to an adjacent square, and only if that move would clear spaces (though in those cases often shapes besides 3+ horizontally or vertically can clear spaces). It took me a few tries to realize this was not the case here. I'd suggest a little more clarity about that in the instructions. Good job in any case!
